Help for a Clustered Column Chart

I’m a researcher in science education and communication, currently doing my PhD in visual learning and communication. I’m always trying to improve my communication skills. Frankly, the standard excel bar charts are to common in the journals in my field, so I’m all ears for improvements.

I attach the source data for the bar chart and a copy of the current design that I made with Gnuplot.

The graph/data shows frequencies for different concept scores across three different questions (bacteria, cheetah and salamander) from 247 respondents. (The research is about conceptual understanding of evolution)
