Welcome back to the show! To get you ready for the September 23rd National Day of Civic Hacking, I’m very happy to have Lilian Coral on this week’s episode. At the time of this interview in late August, Lilian was the Chief Data Officer for the City of Los Angeles (she is now the Director of National Strategy for the John S. and James L.Knight Foundation).
In this episode, Lilian and I talk about changing the culture in local/city governments to embrace open data and provide it to citizens. We also talk about many of the really interesting projects and initiatives the City of Los Angeles has with regards to open data. We also talk about the–or possibly just my–perception of the imbalance between those who use open data portals and those for whom those portals are often targeted to help. Is there such an imbalance, and if so, is it problematic?
