Many people agreed with my basic argument during last month’s Month of Story. One person, however, had a slightly different take on how we tell stories with data and what that concept means as it is applied to data. Chad Skelton, formerly a journalist at the Vancouver Sun, looked at telling stories with data through the lens of a news story and how that differs from the literary story I based my argument on. So, on this week’s episode, Chad and I fight it out over stories and data. We also spend a bunch of time talking about the challenges of teaching data visualization–how to pair concepts with practice, tools and code, and the skills students in different fields need.
