On this week’s episode of the show, I’m excited to chat with Xan Gregg, Data Visualization Development Director for JMP at SAS (see below). Xan regularly creates visualizations and makeovers for all sorts of interesting topics, as well as, of course, working on the JMP software tool. In this episode, we talk about the ever-growing landscape of data visualization tools; what it takes–and what are the responsibilities–of remaking data visualizations; and some of Xan’s biggest data visualization turn-ons and turn-offs.

Lovely article, Xan!
Great coincidence that you bring up fractals from statistical software. One of the newest areas of research are time series that are close models of fractals.
One thing: I’m not sure you have true self-similarity here, and since this is a no iterated function (I’m assuming) on the integers, I’d bet the similarity breaks down at some point.
You’d also need a sensitivity to initial conditions to have a fractal. Would it make sense to start this series from another integer, which would generate a really different structure?
Just fascinating, I tell you! Great job.
